The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Whenever a major awards ceremony approaches, you'll find an outcry for the addition of new categories to recognize unsung work and fill the hearts of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, however the design of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences globally and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier game development, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
